This qualification reflects the role of community service workers involved in the delivery, management and coordination of person-centred services to individuals, groups, and communities.

At this level, workers have specialised skills in community services and work autonomously within their scope of practice under broad directions from senior management.

Workers support people to make change in their lives to improve personal and social well being and may also have responsibility for the supervision of other workers and volunteers. They may also undertake case management and program coordination.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 100 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.

The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

This course is designed to be completed over 52 weeks (including holidays).

Expected Study Hours: Learners are expected to undertake 20 hours of training per week, in addition, students are required to complete self-directed learning hours to review learning materials, prepare for assessments, and participate in training activities.

Delivery Method:

This method of delivery is Blended (Face to Face & Online).

A total of 100 Hours of mandatory industry work placement is required to be completed for this qualification.

Generally, you will be responsible for finding a Vocational Placement provider. However, you may be supported by the Vocational Placement Coordinator in finding one. The Training Manager and Work Placement Co-ordinator will discuss the best options for placement with every student to find a location and timing that suits the student. Where the student is already working in an appropriate workplace, it is recommended that this facility would be best for gathering the workplace evidence for the units across the identified 100 hours. There may be some flexibility in the timing of workplace evidence collected for these existing workers who have employer support for this course.

Vigil International College will provide all work placement support resources to our students.

Work Placement Requirements:

All students entering a workplace facility in the aged care industry, must have:

A satisfactory National Police Clearance

Current Vaccination/Immunization Certificate and Proof of Immunity (Highly Recommended).

There are no pre-requisites required to enter this training program for CHC52025 - Diploma of Community Services.

However, Vigil International College screens learners according to the following criteria:

• Must be 18 years or older; and
• Have sound language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills (at least Year 10 English, or equivalent)
• Must hold a valid visa to study
• Participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs.
• Additionally, international students must:
  • Have an IELTS* score of 6.0 with no band less than 5.5 or equivalent tests
    (test results must be no more than 2 years old).
  • English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence
    of any of the following:
    • Educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country; or
    • Successful completion of an English Placement Test / General English
      Upper Intermediate Level or equivalent of IBT or PTE Academic or CAE
    • Satisfactorily completed our Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital
      Literacy assessment

The cost of undertaking this course is:

• Onshore Students: $8,800
• Offshore Students: $12,900

The target group for this qualification is international students who are:

• Seeking to pursue a career in the community services industry.
• Seeking to further enhance their career in the health industry.
• Seeking a pathway to higher-level qualifications.

Characteristics of the Target Group:

• Generally, students will have completed a CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support with Vigil International College.
• Students will be from a range of countries and may be living in Australia for the first time or may have been here in the recent or more distant past.
• Many will speak English as a second language, although an entry level has been set to ensure students are able to complete coursework.
• Students are expected to typically fall within the age range of 18–35 years, as people still establishing or changing careers.

Education Pathways:

Students enrolled in this course may also choose to study other courses that will support them in their case management skills, as well as training skills. Other options available for students may include the following qualifications:

• TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment*

Successful achievement of the full qualification is composed of twenty (20) units designated as follows:

• 12 core units, plus
• 8 elective units, of which:
  • At least 6 units from amongst the electives listed in Group A, B, C, D or E below
  • Up to 2 units from the electives listed below, any endorsed Training Package or accredited course

Units have been selected in accordance with the packaging rules and are relevant to the work outcome,
local industry requirements and qualification level.

Any course duration reduction as a result of RPL granted/ Credit Transfer to international students will be indicated on the Confirmation of Enrolment if granted prior to the issue of a visa or on PRISMS if granted after the issue of a visa.
