This course is designed to be completed over 52 weeks (including holidays).

Expected Study Hours: Learners are expected to undertake 20 hours of training per week, in addition, students are required to complete self-directed learning hours to review learning materials, prepare for assessments, and participate in training activities.

Delivery Method:

This method of delivery is Blended (Face to Face & Online).

There are no pre-requisites required to enter this training program for CPC30220 Certificate III in Carpentry.

However, Vigil International College requires students to meet the following criteria:

• must be 18 years or older
• Have sound language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills, at least Year 10 English or equivalent
• Must hold a valid visa to study
• Participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs
• Additionally, international students must have an IELTS score of 6.0 with no band less than 5.5, or equivalent test results no more than 2 years old. English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
  • Educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country
  • Successful completion of an English Placement Test, General English Upper Intermediate Level, or equivalent IBT, PTE Academic or CAE
  • Satisfactorily completed Vigil International College’s Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy assessment

The target audience for the CPC30220 Certificate III in Carpentry includes both domestic and international students who are:

• Looking to pursue a career in carpentry, focusing on wall and floor construction in residential and commercial sectors.
• Interested in entering a new industry.
• Seeking a pathway to higher-level qualifications in the field of carpentry.

This course is aimed at both international students from various countries and domestic students eager to develop their carpentry skills and knowledge to enhance their career opportunities or pursue further study. These students are typically aged between 18 and 35 and may not have prior work or study experience in carpentry.

The course is open to both onshore international students currently residing in Australia and offshore students applying from abroad. Most international students speak English as a second language, and they must meet the required English language proficiency standards to successfully enrol in the program.

For students with existing skills and knowledge in carpentry, Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) options may be available. This allows students to complete the course in a reduced timeframe. However, students should be aware that the use of Credit Transfer or RPL may affect their visa and Confirmation of Enrolment (COE). The award achievable for completion is Certificate and the award achievable for partial completion is Statement of Attainment.

Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.

To achieve this qualification, competency must be demonstrated in:

• 34 units of competency:
  • 27 core units
  • 7 electives
• a minimum of five units must be selected from Group A
• the remaining can be selected from Group A or Group B
• a maximum of two units can be selected from any group or current training package, as long as it contributes to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome and maintains the AQF level of this qualification.

Any course duration reduction as a result of RPL granted/ Credit Transfer to international students will be indicated on the Confirmation of Enrolment if granted prior to the issue of a visa or on PRISMS if granted after the issue of a visa.
