This qualification reflects the trade qualified role of a bricklayer, blocklayer or paver who may have responsibility for undertaking heritage bricklaying, refractory bricklaying, bricklaying, blocklaying and paving work in residential, industrial and commercial contexts, in both existing and new constructions.

The bricklaying, blocklaying and paving industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered and assessed in this context.

Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements vary between states. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements.

Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. This course is designed to be completed over 52 weeks (including holidays).

Expected Study Hours: Learners are expected to undertake 20 hours of training per week, in addition, students are required to complete self-directed learning hours to review learning materials, prepare for assessments, and participate in training activities.

Delivery Method:

This method of delivery is Blended (Face to Face & Online).

There are no pre-requisites required to enter this training program for CPC33020 Certificate III in Bricklaying and Blocklaying.

However, Vigil International College requires students to meet the following criteria:

• must be 18 years or older
• Have sound language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills, at least Year 10 English or equivalent
• Must hold a valid visa to study
• Participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs
• Additionally, international students must have an IELTS score of 6.0 with no band less than 5.5, or equivalent test results no more than 2 years old. English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
  • Educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country
  • Successful completion of an English Placement Test, General English Upper Intermediate Level, or equivalent IBT, PTE Academic or CAE
  • Satisfactorily completed Vigil International College’s Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy assessment

The characteristics of the target group are as follows:

This course is aimed at both international students from various countries and domestic students eager to develop their bricklaying and blocklaying skills and knowledge to enhance their career opportunities or pursue further study. These students are typically aged between 18 and 35 and may not have prior work or study experience in bricklaying and blocklaying.

The course is open to both onshore international students currently residing in Australia and offshore students applying from abroad. Most international students speak English as a second language, and they must meet the required English language proficiency standards to successfully enrol in the program.

For students with existing skills and knowledge in carpentry, Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) options may be available. This allows students to complete the course in a reduced timeframe. However, students should be aware that the use of Credit Transfer or RPL may affect their visa and Confirmation of Enrolment (COE). To achieve this qualification, competency must be demonstrated in:

• 28 units of competency:
  • 20 core units
  • 8 elective units.
• the elective units can be selected, once only, from any of the groups listed below.
• up to two elective units can be selected from any Training Package and or accredited course, as long as they contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome and support the AQF level of this qualification.

Any course duration reduction as a result of RPL granted/ Credit Transfer to international students will be indicated on the Confirmation of Enrolment if granted prior to the issue of a visa or on PRISMS if granted after the issue of a visa.
