This qualification provides a trade outcome in solid plastering for residential and commercial work. The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as the specialist field of work, solid plastering. Solid plasterers apply plaster, cement and other mixtures to walls to create smooth or decorative finishes to interior walls and to render to exterior walls.

This qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway.

Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.

Expected Study Hours: Learners are expected to undertake 20 hours of training per week, in addition, students are required to complete self-directed learning hours to review learning materials, prepare for assessments, and participate in training activities.

Delivery Method:

This method of delivery is Blended (Face to Face & Online).

There are no pre-requisites required to enter this training program for CPC31020 Certificate III in Solid Plastering.

However, Vigil International College requires students to meet the following criteria:

• must be 18 years or older
• Have sound language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills, at least Year 10 English or equivalent
• Must hold a valid visa to study
• Participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs
• Additionally, international students must have an IELTS score of 6.0 with no band less than 5.5, or equivalent test results no more than 2 years old. English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
  • Educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country
  • Successful completion of an English Placement Test, General English Upper Intermediate Level, or equivalent IBT, PTE Academic or CAE
  • Satisfactorily completed Vigil International College’s Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy assessment

The characteristics of the target group are as follows:

This course is designed for both international students from diverse backgrounds and domestic students who want to develop practical skills and technical knowledge in solid plastering and rendering to improve their employment prospects or continue further education in construction-related fields. Students are typically aged between 18 and 35 and may have limited or no prior experience in plastering or construction work.

The course is available to both onshore international students currently residing in Australia and offshore students applying from overseas. International students are generally required to demonstrate English language proficiency, as English is often their second language, to ensure they can safely and effectively participate in practical training and workplace-based learning.

For students who already have relevant industry skills and experience, Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may be available, enabling them to complete the qualification in a shorter timeframe. However, students should be aware that the use of Credit Transfer or RPL may affect visa conditions and Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) requirements. Qualification Pathways:

The CPC31020 Certificate III in Solid Plastering provides a direct pathway to employment as a qualified solid plasterer or renderer in residential and commercial construction in Australia, with opportunities to work as a subcontractor or start a plastering business. After gaining industry experience, graduates may further progress to higher-level qualifications such as the CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction or CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building), leading to supervisory, site management, estimating, or construction management roles. Additional pathways into business or leadership roles are also possible through qualifications such as the BSB Certificate IV or Diploma in Leadership and Management, with potential progression into construction business ownership or project management roles.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must demonstrate competency in:

• 20 units of competency:
  • 15 core units
  • 5 elective units.

Electives are to be selected as follows:

• all five units from the electives listed below, or
• four units from the electives listed below, plus one unit selected from any current training package or accredited course as long as it contributes to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome, maintains the integrity of the AQF level of this qualification and does not duplicate the outcome of another unit used to achieve this qualification.

Any course duration reduction as a result of RPL granted/ Credit Transfer to international students will be indicated on the Confirmation of Enrolment if granted prior to the issue of a visa or on PRISMS if granted after the issue of a visa.
